May 9 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm$50
Sunday 9th May 9 am start.
Please Note – location is Firebird Ceramic Designs – 7/28 Greg Chappell Drive, Burleigh Heads, QLD – right hand side of driveway at the very end!
We will be firing RAKU ROCKET three times beginning at 9am! Raku rocket takes about one hour to reach temperature and we will be taking our time to unload and put work in reduction bins.
Glazes will be provided, or you may use your own.
The amount you can put through the kiln will depend on the size of your work and how many people attend! Each person will have at least one piece per firing. The firing fees are $50 plus $5/kg for your finished work.
Firebird Ceramic Designs studio is a comfortable place to relax, socialise and chat amongst fellow potters. It is airconditioned, has lounge areas and a studio area, a fridge, kettle, microwave and tea/coffee. BYO lunch. The raku area is outdoors, but it has a roof!
You will need at least three pieces of bisque fired work (1000C bisque) in a clay body that is suitable for raku (practically any mid fire or stoneware clay). You must wear non flammable clothing, closed shoes (not plastic or nylon and no sling backs) and long hair tied back!
No worries if you have never done raku before – everything will be taught, and everyone gets to play!
These firings are regular – at least once a month most months!
Featuring RAKU ROCKET and student work from previous firings!
Please bring your own hand towel, fluids and snacks. Expect to be on site for 4 hours. Long pants, non flammable fabrics, closed shoes that are NOT nylon or plastic must be worn, as well as ensuring long hair is tied back.
****Please be on time – if you miss the briefing you will miss the important saftey and glazing information and it may jepardise your attendance!
