Intermediate and Advanced Throwing Short Course

Starting Wednesday 25th August 10 – 12 5 Weeks

This 5 week throwing course is suitable for people who can centre and control their clay on the potter’s wheel.

It will take you through the skills involved in altering forms, throwing multi part pieces, throwing larger pieces and fitted pieces.

WEEK ONE

• Make the parts for three elaborate lidded containers
• Think of stands, lids, additions, carving, slip texture, glazing and incorporate some hand built pieces
• Use texture
• Throw large!

WEEK TWO

• Trim and assemble the lidded containers
• Throw a coffee set – coffee pot, filter cup, cups (two or four)
• Think about how they fit together and stands to go on

WEEK THREE

• Trim and assemble the coffee set
• Throw a ring vase or teapot

WEEK FOUR

• Trim and assemble the thrown pieces for the teapot or vase!
• Throw 4 noodle bowls – altered, textures, unusual, sort of matching!

WEEK FIVE

• Trim and finish the noodle bowls – make hashi (chopsticks) to go with them????
• Throw a large platter/bowl – design for sgraffito, washi, slips, alterations, textures, alternative firing….
• Make it fun!
