Hand Building Masterclass – 10 Weeks

Starting Tuesday 5th October 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

In this Master Class you will learn and get good at all of the main pottery hand building techniques!

You will learn slab building, pinch potting, coiling and slip casting in this course. As you develop your skills the complexity of the work increases. By the end of the course you will be amazed at how far you have come in your skills and finesse. The work you will make is laid out in the course structure, however we fully encourage you to think outside the square and develop your own style!

You will also be introduced to some basic decoration techniques and take home lots of pieces and work you will be proud of!

Week One

• Introduction to clay
• Handling, recycling
• Getting around the studio and OH&S
• Setting up a work space at home
• Rolling clay by hand
• Using texture – potters mark stamps
• Flatware

Week Two

• Japanese press plates
• Free form platters
• Joined plates
• Using coloured slip and sgraffito

Week Three

• Pinch Pots
• Begin making a tea set
• Consider design and decoration
• Consider glaze effects

 Week Four

• Complete the tea set
• Make tea spoons
• Make a platter to match
• Glazing basics

Week Five

• Make a mug set
• Slip cast a keep cup

Week Six

• Slab build a small jewellery box
• Pinch pot a small box

Week Seven

• Coil build a planter
• Sculpt a figurine or small bust

 Week Eight

• Advanced slab building project
• You choose your project

Week Nine

• Introduction to Porcelain jewellery
• Finishing Work

Week Ten

• Finish all work
• Glaze
• Photograph

Everything you need is supplied in this Master Class! All materials, a set of tools to keep, firings and more. Unlimited access to Community Clay to practice, glaze and work on your masterpieces!
